Somerset MP Recognises Growing Steelwork Fabrication Plant As Expansion Plans Begin

Staff at Littleton Steel in Chew Magna, Somerset, discussed their plans for expansion during a recent visit by local MP and former secretary of state for Business, Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Formed in 1997, as a sole trader, then aligned with another local fabricator from 2003 to 2020 before re-establishing and rebranding to Littleton Steel Ltd. It has since been fabricating and installing structural steel, undertaking secondary steelwork, and offering a wide range of design services with several projects currently taking place across the UK.
Currently in rented premises, LSL has recently acquired its own 1ac manufacturing facility located just 5 minutes from J21, M5, Weston Super Mare.
During the recent visit to the current facility, Mr Rees-Mogg was given a tour of the site, meeting all 16 members of staff including the factory staff, where he learnt about current projects and how the firm looks to expand its services in the near future.
Having worked on significant projects such as Hinkley Point C and the Crescent Centre in Bristol, Littleton Steel is also a proud member of the British Constructional Steelwork Association, a trade body which has been representing the UK and Irish structural steel sector for over a century.
“We were delighted to welcome Jacob Rees-Mogg MP and BCSA to visit our workshop and to discuss the challenges and opportunities being faced, not only by our business but the steel and construction industry more widely. Mr Rees-Mogg was particularly impressed with the technical demonstration he received in the workshop and the insight he gained into the detailing process” comments Andy Raines, Director of Littleton Steel.

At the time of writing this article, 16th January, I read an article on the BBC quoting Anders Opedal (Chief Executive) of Equinor one of Europe’s biggest energy companies, who stated that windfall taxes on energy firms were affecting investments in projects in the UK. “Poor you”, I thought, it must be terrible making pre-tax profits of $24.3bn

I think we can all agree that we’ve traded through a very difficult and unstable couple of years. One wonders how the next two years will pan out, especially if the analysts are using data from an unstable period to predict the future, interpolation of data is easy, extrapolation of data is almost always inaccurate.
